Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question of your own? Email us: Click Here

Q: Why are you doing this?

A: Charter Communications’ CommuniTyVision 21 (Your Local Channel) sees a natural connection to transition from videotape media to DVD. Our studio has used various tape formats for over 20 years and is now upgrading to a digital storage and playback system. We want to use this campaign to further educate area residents about CTV-21’s local programming opportunities while providing a necessary service to the community.

Q: Who is paying for this?

A: The management of Charter Communications cares for the environment and will pay for the collection, shipping and recycling costs incurred from the relationship with GreenDisk.

Q: Some of these tapes contain precious family memories, how can I preserve the tapes I want to keep?

A: Upon request we will provide a listing of local video professionals who have the capability to make DVD transfers of your precious memories.

Q: I’m not sure what’s on the tapes I’m recycling. What will happen to the content on the tape?

A: GreenDisk, the company responsible for recycling the tapes, also specializes in the secure destruction of all content on the tape media they collect. Tapes will be degaussed (magnetically erased) destroying all the recorded information.

Q: Some of my tapes are broken; I don’t want to lose what’s on the tape. Can they be fixed?

A: Some VHS tapes are repairable. We will inspect your tape and advise you on possible options for its repair.

Q: Do I have to wait until April?

A: No. Call CTV-21 right now to schedule a time when you can drop off your tapes.

Q: What if I miss the April dates?

A: If the campaign is successful, Charter will schedule another recycling month for tapes to be dropped off.

Q: What towns are served by Charter Communications in Western Connecticut?

A: Trumbull, Monroe, Newtown, Brookfield, New Fairfield, Sherman, Washington, Kent, Bridgewater, Roxbury, Southbury, Woodbury, Bethlehem, and New Milford.

Q: What does CTV-21 do the rest of the time when they’re not helping to clean up our environment?

A: CTV-21’s staff of five works with the residents of the towns listed above to establish channel 21 as the local television station where anyone can learn to produce and/or provide programming of their design. It’s fun, free, and no previous experience is necessary! Call us to schedule a tour of the studio.
